After the release of the two hit movies- Prem Ratan Dhan Payo & Tamasha, people have been comparing the two fashion icons. Sonam as Maithili in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo & Deepika as Tara in Tamasha, have beautifully and intelligently shown their great sense of fashion.
Sonam as Maithili has focused much on the Indian Wear although Deepika as Tara has flawlessly shown her Western Wear. Both the looks sound contrary together, but independently they’ve both done a great job. Here, are the few cool facts and looks of both the icons.
Evolution: Sonam, being born & brought up in a celebrity family came with a branded tag. Initially, she started her fashion journey with her debut movie Saawariya although she received critical comments from film & fashion industry. Later she signed up for Aisha in 2010 which turned to be the turning point for her fashion journey. With the release of Aisha, Sonam delivered one of its kind fashion and trended all year long for bringing international style to the Indian fashion circuit. Gradually, she became a hit among the fashion designers. In 2011, Sonam’s style statement inspired the international red carpet in Cannes.
She also shared seats with Anne Wintour & Will.I.Am in Fashion Weeks around the world. Finally, 2103 onwards she came to be known as the Bollywood Fashionista. Sonam has become a fashion influencer for the Indian fashion market. The girl who was once criticized for her sour debut attempt in Bollywood now has a fan following of over 7.8 million on Facebook.
Pear-Shaped Body (triangle), with hips larger than busts and well-defined waist.
Trainers: Sunita Kapoor (mother) helped her lose weight before joining B-Town. Radhika Karle is her personal trainer. Sonam often trains with Zarine Watson, does Pilates & hits the gym at least 3 times a week, with Yasmin Karachiwala.
Favorite Designer: Anamika Khanna. Sonam is often seen flaunting the lace embellished designs & cape styled gowns by Anamika. Even Cannes’ red carpet appearances were from Anamika’s collections.
Brand Endorsements: Electrolux, Spice Mobile, Mont Blanc, L’Oreal Paris.
Dress like Sonam!
Deepika’s journey began with her debut film Om Shanti Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Over the years, she has taken to minimalistic makeup. From 2004 to 2006, she rose to fame with her modeling assignments and achievements. After being awarded as the “model of the year” by Kingfisher, Deepika Padukone soon got selected as one of the cover girls of the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar 2006. It was in 2011 that she started picking silhouettes and edgy styles that suited her model good looks and poise.
It started with a CUE by Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna one-shoulder metallic dress, a difficult silhouette for anybody without Padukone’s athletic arms. But Padukone’s biggest year so far has got to have been 2013.
The star was spotted in everything from an Alexander McQueen gown to a Shehla Khan lehenga, Sonaakshi Raaj sari gown and that barely-there Gaurav Gupta gown. Two years later, the looks haven’t gotten any less exciting. Now Padukone doesn’t just have a killer body, but an equally deadly wardrobe to show it off with too.
Athletic Shaped Body (inverted triangle), with shoulders wider than hips and hardly defined waist.
Trainers: Deepika does not have any personal fitness trainer, although she takes help from Yasmin Karachiwala, at times. Deepika does Pilates, yoga, breathing exercises and asanas with Abhishek Sharma (fitness trainer).
Favorite Designer: Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Deepika is often seen flaunting the traditional looks with the Indian Wear. She prefers wearing saree to many events and occasions.
Brand Endorsements: Nestle Nescafe, Asian Paints, Axis Bank, Kellogg’s Special K, Neutrogena, Sony Cybershot, Parachute, Tissot, Garnier (face products), Lux, HP, Coke and many more.
Movies and makeup go hand in hand. Call it an occupational hazard, but makeup is a must. But then once in a while, there comes a role where the ‘real’ side of our beloved actresses come out as they go makeup free!
Our leading ladies have showed us, time and again, their natural side by flaunting the ‘no-makeup’ look! They’re stunning, drool worthy and you’d certainly want to ape these 7 looks!
1. Deepika Padukone
This lady tops my list! Be it makeup or no makeup, she manages to look stellar no matter what! Whether it was the feisty Deepika in Piku or the nerdy one in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, she killed it!
2. Kangana Ranaut
The character of ‘Datto’ from Tannu Weds Mannu is one that’ll stay with me for a long time. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone work with so much conviction and look gorgeous at the same time! She is a star. And how can we forget her in Queen, her best work so far. Blushed cheeks and a flawless skin, she absolutely nailed it.
3. Shraddha Kapoor
Shraddha Kapoor is a natural beauty and while she is still finding her niche in the industry, she is often talked about her delicate looks. Blessed with flawless skin and a creamy complexion, this light-eyed beauty looks even more enviously gorgeous with some ‘barely there’ makeup! Just look at her shining like that…
4. Nargis Fakhri
Nargis has proven to us that she looks flawless, time and again. Her entire look in Rockstar was so pretty- the rosy cheeks, the popping eyes, striking lips and that snowy skin, it was all magical. She definitely has the complexion and flawless skin to carry off the no-makeup look!
5. Priyanka Chopra
Mary Kom was one of the most gripping movies and Priyanka Chopra was effortless! A pleasant change from her glamourous roles, as Mary Kom, PC went makeup free. Even Quantico, her first international series, is doing very well! And with the good work comes the good looks because Priyanka has managed to rock the ‘au naturale’ trend with much grace and poise.
6. Alia Bhatt
This actress personifies childlike innocence and cuteness. She’s a total bundle of joy. But contrary to her real life self, her character in Highway was powerful and fierce. She did full justice to her role with her talent and her outlook donning the natural no makeup look. Kudos to you, girl.
7. Anushka Sharma
Having done diverse roles, Anushka has always been innovative and open to experiments when it comes to her roles and her looks. From looking ultra glam to keeping things low key, she has done it all. Though, personally, I’d prefer her natural look to her ‘insta mode’ choices.
So pucker those lips and dab on some mascara. Make the most of this season with this look!
In retrospect, one would say Deepika Padukone’s stardom was inevitable. She had the makings of a star early on what with landing her debut film with none other than King Khan himself. You might say she had it easy – she had the height, the looks, and the right films and so on. But for the longest time, Deepika struggled with her image.
Initially, she was just a model-turned-actress, a clothes horse with never ending legs but no real fashion sense to call her own. Back in 2007, the leggy lass was lauded for her sculpted body but her sense of dressing was just an extension of her runway days. She had the body, but her personal style was still missing…
Her initial brush with fashion…
This can be termed as a disaster. Yes, she was the sporty girl who donned everything from heavy tank tops to over-the-top Indian wear, wore colors that were no value add for her beautiful complexion. Well, to say her first steps were rocky, would be an understatement. Unfortunately for Ms Padukone, her choice of wardrobe hid her naturally lean body and failed to highlight her assets. From cargos to wearing silver-colored keds or heavily embellished lehengas, it hid the real Deepika.
Hidden behind heavy and too-busy outfits, she was giving out the wrong signals. To make herself heard, she had to be a trendsetter. Yes, Bollywood and fans of Hindi cinema are biased that way. An actress has to be everything – a good actress (duh) whose dialogue delivery is second to none, a great dancer, a role model and a fashion trendsetter. To make matters worse, Deepika who was always polite and correct, seemed stiff at events and social dos.
Deepika’s Fashion Disasters
Deepika wore this Rohit Bahl creation at Cannes in 2010. While the outfit did nothing for her, the fur shrug totally killed her look. Also, she seemed stiff to the extent of being uncomfortable.
Foundation of Deepika’s style
Suddenly out of the blue, the actress was seen in out-there, risky outfits. While these did not add much to her fashion quotient, it led us to believe that she was establishing her territory, she was discovering her strong personality.
She seemed to have re-thought her style mantra as she now began to wear clothes that accentuated her assets, her strong physique. She switched from t-shirts and cargos to well-fitted pants and girly dresses and her body-hugging silhouettes made the paparazzi goes crazy!
Soon Deepika was relying on draped dresses and gowns. She stunned everyone with her strapless, sequined Dolce and Gabbana gown at the Vogue Beauty Awards in 2012.
Post the D& G gown, there was no looking back for Deepika. She established herself not only as a trendsetter but also as a bankable star and a powerful actress. With Ramleela, Yeh Jawani hai Dewaani and Cocktail, she proved she was versatile and so was her wardrobe. She played the edgy Veronica in Cocktail, the shy, nerdy Naina in Yeh Jawani hai Deewani and Leela, the village belle in RamLeela with equal panache.
She had now moved onto effortless dressing and laid-back hairstyle that showed off her easy yet sexy personality. She chose a path that was risky, barely-there cholis and long flowy lehengas, sheer sarees and sexier gowns. She soon proved that she wasn’t just a pretty face but a woman of substance.
She has cracked the code – she adapts her makeup, her hairdo with her outfits yet managing to keep it simple, natural and sexy at the same time. She is the real deal!
Her latest film Tamasha will bring out the vibrant, happy-go-lucky and fearless side to her personality. These attributes show in her choice of clothes.
Deepika Padukone has truly evolved as the diva from her seemingly awkward initial days. We hope she continues to score high on the fashion quotient and evolves into a graceful diva she is…
With much anticipation and excitement, Tamasha is all set for its big release. We are equally eager to see what this movie has in store for us…
Meet Tara Maheshwari, an heir to the extravagant tea estate business, the wild soul, the silver-tongued is utterly gorgeous and is winning our hearts with her eccentric looks and out of the ordinary character! She is an adventure seeker and tremendously fearless with a secretive soft side to her. Let us explore some of Tara’s looks and trace her magical journey throughout the film.
1. The Braveheart
As pristine as the colour white itself, Tara embarks on a journey that’ll change her life. This white dress is going to be something that we remember her by and I’m sure you’d want to have it too. Get this look by pairing it with earthy colours and rock the true essence of simplicity!
Florals are one of the hottest trends of the season and Tara’s character nails the floral effect with a deep yellow jacket and a cute little pink scarf. This look is very versatile and can be teamed with a pair of thigh high boots and stocking for that dramatic effect this winter.
Stripes never get old no matter what time of the year it is. Shine bright under the winter sun with a classic monochrome blouse and add some pop of colour with these handpicked accompaniments. Get ready to fetch a lot of good looks, girl!
Gear up to give your mornings a pleasant twist with lace and wool. I have to say that I am a big fan of this look. The delicacy of the lace sets beautifully with the macho-ness of this woollen jacket. You’ve got to try this, woman.
Saree is one hell of a wardrobe staple for every single WOMAN i would say, if you really wanna look deliciously gorgeous. Yes! I used the word staple to highlight the importance of a drape for a woman to look heavenly. Apparently, saree has always been the most preferred choice of Indian women. It’s has acquired amazing craze outside India too, stumped by its unadulterated culture. Our beautiful leading ladies in Bollywood have been no different. They dress in magnificent sarees that are absolutely stunning to see and start a fashion trend with every new look they adorn. But, when it comes down to looking drop dead gorgeous in sarees, nobody quite pulls it off like our beloved ladies on the silver screen. Amidst, all the fashion rush, bollywood divas never disappoint us to show their statement style when it comes to draping the six yard cloth beautifully. Be it the traditional look or that indo-western thingy. Spare some time to read this post on how bollywood ka sexy women rocked the saree looking effortlessly ravishing!
This dancing doll seems ageless. Yes! Who dares to say no to this? Anyone? Guess not! Atleast after watching her and her gorgeous clothes on ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. She nails the look every single time. Mirrored blouses are on rage this season and Arpita Mehta takes her bit of share of credit for her signature ‘mirror’ style. Madhuri on most of the occasions is seen in Arpita mehta’s creations followed by as usual oohs and aahs!
Sridevi is known for her sense of style when it comes to saree draping. Thanks to her south indian roots! She never fails to wow everyone with her trousseau with an admirable figure. Be it Manish malhotra’s heavily embellished saree or Sabyasachi’s simple drape, she shoots up the look in a jiffy. Lastly, we love her choice of blouse that adds an instant pop of colour in an otherwise dull colour!
Mostly seen in sheer and blingy sarees, no one wears it more confidently as her. It’s amazing that she carries off some of the more louder prints and designs with such ease.
Sonam Kapoor has an unusual sense of fashion which is highly raved about and her style and dressing sense has earned her the title of “fashionista.” She was looking drop-dead gorgeous in the light pink saree and an armored blouse. It was with this look that we finally have to agree that she indeed is a fashionista. She adds a lot of dimension to the ethnic wear and give it a new look each time she dons it.
She may have been called the worst dressed woman in Bollywood but today, Vidya Balan is the ultimate saree adorning diva and no one does it better than her. This Kerala kutti is at her best whenever it is the SAREE.
Rani Mukherjee surely knows the secret behind carrying off a sari so elegantly. She experiments with colour, material and pattern and gets it right most of the time. Sheer elegance!
The dusky beauty of Bollywood is in race with sonam for the ‘fashionista’ title. This leggy lass in desi avatar looks uber cool we must say. She carries off an ultramodern glam look too with oomph. Look how angelic our very own Deepika is in this all white saree by Anamika khanna with a fully embroidered ivory border.
Sarees have been given a modern touch and moulded into different forms like dhoti-saree, saree-skirt, pre-draped and pre-stitched which was very famous with actresses like Chitrangada, Deeepika Padukone, Sophie, Madhuri Dixit, wearing these at events. All you ladies might be wondering how to create this look at much lesser cost. Am almost there lovelies! Bollywood replica sarees are easily available all over the net and even on our limeroad. Donn your favorite drape and flaunt off! Hope this post did its bit and wooed you all! Signing off on a positive note waiting for your comments below!
Not long ago, in 2007; the world began chanting Om Shanti Om! No, the chanting was not just for the success of the film but more. This gorgeous looking, leggy lass with mesmerizing eyes came and conquered both- Bollywood and the audience. Since then her magic prevailed.
Team LimeRoad agrees that Deepika Padukone has a really versatile style. From looking dainty in a saree to rocking the Aztec skirt in the movie Cocktail, rocking the casual airport looks and red carpet gowns; she knows it all.
We can’t replicate her look but we can definitely steal her style.

Ever since I’ve opened my eyes and jumped in this world of fashion, I have followed the mantra- ‘When in doubt, pick sequins!’ Now it looks like Deepika and I have something in common. How genius of her to add the muted mattha patti, nude lips with this in-your-face sequined dress. And that one ring definitely takes the cake. Inspired to sport this look? Buy it here!
3. Ethnic Amour:
Sufi and how! Deepika looks extremely divine dressed up in this gorgeous white. The hint of shimmer adds to the look without taking away its simplicity. Am I the only one who thinks, she rocks whites better than Snowhite? Yet again, she wears white with quite aplomb. A solid white dress with a coat wouldn’t need more than a mere hint of oxblood. The lipstick and the heels draw our attention while the whites don’t let us drift away! If you’ve been trying catch the eyes of the guy you fancy; shop the look and thank us later!
