Why Do We Wear A Bra?
The purpose of a bra is generally to keep the breasts from bouncing around. It also adds support as gravity will pull them downwards. Women with smaller breasts don’t have much that will bounce so they can literally walk around with no bra. Then again, there’s still the gravitational pull so support is still practical, else one will have her breasts hanging on to her knees.
But bigger breasts have more weight and thus need more support and bras must be slightly stronger. You don’t want to go jogging without a bra if you have large breasts as you can quite possibly end up with two black eyes. Is 34C the same as 32D in bra size?
These are the so-called “sister sizes”. The cup can take the same volume of breast tissues but the band size is different. If there are two women one wearing a 34C and other wearing a 32D, then the volume of the breast tissues (if measured) would be more or less the same, but the proportions of their body would differ. The woman wearing 32D size bra would have smaller ribcage than the other woman, so her breast might look bigger, though in terms of volume it is the same as the other woman’s.
This is important as even one single woman can have these two different sizes in her lingerie wardrobe. A fitting bra is not only about the measurements but also it depends on the personal perception of comfort. Someone likes snugger feel, and someone likes the looser feel, but still wants to wear the right size. Different fabrics have different stretch feel on the body, which alters the perception of comfort. Woven fabrics like silk, jacquard, etc. or unstretchable laces give a tighter feeling after wearing them, so the woman who is used to more light feel fabrics might opt for a sister size in the same bra. It means if she is a 32D size, then she can try a 34C for that extra space in the band. The same case applies if she is wearing a very stretchable bra, but she is used to wearing a snugger bra, then she can try a 32E/32D. (depending on the brand sizing) to compensate the too much stretchability. The number is the band size and the letter is cup size.
So even if you can probably close both of them, the cup will either be too small or too big depending on what cup size you actually have.
